Evans Creek Preserve – The Unofficial Sammamish Park Directory

Evans Creek Preserve is one of those places that’s easy to miss if you don’t know where to look — but once you do, it becomes a regular stop.

Tucked away on the edge of Sammamish, this preserve feels far more remote than it actually is. With wide-open meadows, densely wooded trails, and a healthy dose of quiet, it’s the kind of spot locals come to when they want to escape the bustle without leaving town. It’s not a playground or sports field kind of park — it’s more of a “stretch your legs and breathe some fresh air” kind of place.

We’ve spent plenty of afternoons here as a family — some hiking, some just sitting on a bench watching dragonflies dance over the grass. If you come during spring or early summer, wildflowers pop up along the trail edges and the tall grasses are teeming with birdsong. Later in the year, the colors shift to deep golds and browns, and it becomes a perfect fall walk.

There are two entrances: the main trailhead on 224th Ave NE (with a real parking lot and bathroom), and the lower trailhead off NE Union Hill Road (smaller, gravel parking). If you’re coming with kids or looking for easier access, stick with the main lot — the trails from there are wide and mostly flat for the first stretch.

Why We Love It

  • Peaceful, less crowded than other Sammamish parks
  • Well-maintained trails for walking, trail running, and leashed dogs
  • Diverse terrain: open meadow, shaded forest, and creekside habitat
  • Plenty of wildlife — we’ve spotted deer, owls, hawks, and even the occasional coyote
  • Benches and overlooks perfect for a quiet break or casual birdwatching

Hours of Operation

Park Hours:
Dawn to dusk daily

Please note that hours may change due to holidays or special events. It is recommended to check the park’s website or call ahead for any updates.

Our Favorite Loop

For a simple, scenic walk, try this ~2-mile loop:

  1. Start from the main trailhead
  2. Head left down into the meadow
  3. Loop through the lower forest trails
  4. Climb back up the hill toward the overlook bench (great view)
  5. Return to the lot through the upper forest

It’s gentle enough for kids but interesting enough for adults to enjoy, especially in the golden light of late afternoon.

Final Thoughts

Evans Creek Preserve isn’t a flashy destination, and that’s kind of the point. It’s a place to take a slow walk, reconnect with nature, and feel like you’re somewhere far away — without ever leaving Sammamish.

If you live nearby and haven’t been yet, go. You’ll probably wonder why you waited so long.
